Tip for a Tuesday | Guest Post by Owner of Crossroads Hair & Design

It’s Part three of my guess post wedding series!! Today I am bringing you insight from Amanda, the owner of Crossroads Hair & Design!

Amanda and I met when she brought her youngest daughter by my studio for her one year pictures. We quickly became friends and she became my devoted nail tech…I still haven’t found someone in North Carolina who does as good of nails as Amanda! Not only does she rock at nails but she is a fabulous hair stylist! We have worked together for many weddings & she is absolutely wonderful at what she does! (Just see below at the example photos)!

Amanda is sharing with you three things to take into consideration when choosing your wedding hairstyle, hear it from the pro:

“Hi I’m Amanda, owner of Crossroads Hair & Design. I have been in the cosmetology business for nearly eight years, but it wasn’t until three years ago when I moved to Havre, Montana (and met Mary) that I really got going in the wedding industry. Since then I have styled nearly 20 brides, and 50 + bridesmaids and flower girls!

I think it’s important when choosing a wedding hairstyle to take into consideration three things.

1. The style/shape of your dress.

For most brides the dress is what they want to highlight the most. I think it’s important to look at the style and neckline of your dress. If there’s a beautiful beaded neckline or laced back you’re wanting to showoff, you probably don’t want your hair hanging over it. For sweetheart necklines, spaghetti straps or one strap dresses a low bun, side style or braid looks very flattering. Sleeved, high-neck, or halter dresses, I tend to favor an updo or bun that is positioned closer to the middle or top of the head. Lastly, cap-sleeved or strapless dresses look amazing with loose, romantic curls or a half up-half down style.

2. How your bridesmaids are going to be styled.

How are your bridesmaids going to be styled? After all it’s your big day, you should stand apart from your party. If a majority of her bridesmaids are wearing their hair up, I would suggest the bride wearing her hair down or to the side. If a majority are wearing their hair down, maybe consider a tousled updo.

3. The overall style or theme of your wedding.

When you’re looking at the overall theme or style of your wedding take into consideration if it’s more formal, relaxed, casual or as some say boho. Loose flowy curls are always very popular. Braids are a personal favorite of mine, they really give a style depth, and can be incorporated into any style whether it’s a formal updo, messy bun, or down style.

The last thing I wanted to touch on is whether or not you plan on wearing a veil. The one thing I have learned is whether you’re wearing your hair up, down, to the side or braided, there are always ways to pin or clip a veil in. Also, I always make sure to show the maid of honor how to remove the veil without messing up the style, because I’ve never known a bride to wear her veil through the entire reception.

I hope these suggestions help you in finding the perfect style for your big day. Just remember to be you, don’t choose a style that you would never consider on a regular day. You want to look your best, but you also want to feel comfortable in the style you choose!”
